A brief exchange on the Unworkshop mail list this morning:
…he is driving from Toronto to Florida with 2 of his kids (we can discuss sanity issues later) and that he will be moblogging while on the road
Question: what is the value of moblogging? Should we take it seriously? Is this something we should add to our skill set?
Loretta
Ok so you are telling me that I may become so addicted to posting on my Blog that I may well feel compelled to continue to post whilst away from base.
Remind me not to buy any of the technology that would make that easy.
Thank goodness the only route in for me, “public wi-fi hot spots”, are few and far between in my neck of the woods. I might want to try it and then what would happen?

now, now, peter. we’re not talking about you. we’re talking about your kids, the ones punching buttons on their cell phones so they always know where others in their group are hanging out. moblogging is the key to smart mobs. announce you’re having a cool party and the word spreads in five minutes. imagine the power of bringing that to communication among workers!
futurists tell us pervasive computing (AKA ubiquitous, always on) is coming soon. your phone, tricked out with a head-mounted display and voice recognition, will be the way of the world. 24/7.
saying that, i’m with you that it’s not for me. i sometimes cut my phone off in the office because i don’t want my concentration interruped. (ringing a bell is so pavlovian.) the new infrastructure will need to accommodate folks like us with signal-free meditation rooms, sort of like the smoking rooms at airports, except that the walls of meditation rooms would be wrapped in lead to block incoming signals and blog posts.

My Granchildren are signing up to this technology as of now. Leaving their parents, my kids gasping. Shame I am not quiet ready for the hermit’s cave. Although I do look for peace and quiet when it is time to think and as a result cannot figure out how they (The Grandchildren) operate. I suspect we may be seeing the evolution of the multi-tasking male brain. For that, unfortunately, I do not qualify.
