T+D magazine, June 2006, Jay’s article on informal learning (Flash paper). (HTML Version)
Informal does not mean random.
My interest is informal learning in corporate environments, that is, Informal Learning with a purpose.
Informal Learning is a profit strategy.

Why oh why would you use Flash paper for this article rather than HTML?
Stephen, it’s Flash paper because I didn’t have an HTML version at hand. I was late and I didn’t want to post Microsoft Word HTML. I’ll post an HTML version but what do you have against Flash paper?
Well on my computer the Flash interface was slow, which meant scrolling was slow, mouse movements over the Flash were slow, etc.
Additionally, I found that while I could highlight text, I wasn’t able to paste text, so quoting from the paper would mean typing out the text.
But mostly, it’s a proprietary interface. The open interface of HTML is much preferable.
As an aside: these days you don’t need to have an HTML version to post in HTML. Cut from Word (or whatever you wrote it in) and paste into the blog form. The blogging software will create the HTML for you.
Okay, Stephen, I’ve posted an HTML version above. I don’t like the HTML Microsoft Word yields. It’s fat and ugly. Being able to copy is advantageous. These days, I feel we need a semi-proprietary category for Flash, Acrobat, and other quasi-standards.
